The Wiim Ultra Power Supply Upgrade replaces the internal switch-mode power-supply in the Ultra streamer, with a Teddy Pardo Audio high performance external power supply.
This modification includes:
- Removal of the original switch-mode power supply.
- Bypassing the internal power distribution network.
- Seperating the power feeds for analog and digital sections.
- Modifications to the analog output stage.
This upgrade process is not DIY friendly, and thus can only be performed by Teddy Pardo Audio.

The result is a big step forward in the sound quality of the, bringing it very close to the level of network streamers costing 3 times as much.
Digital devices like the WiiM Ultra are so good these days, that there’s just not much any company can do to improve the quality of sound from them. The ONE thing that can really help is a linear power supply, and this is where the Teddy Pardo WiiM Ultra combo really shines. Better sounding, by a small bit, than my Innuos ZENith MK3.

Background
The Wiim Ultra is originally equipped with a low-cost switch-mode power supply, similar to the power supplies that can be found in many low cost consumer products. This power supply has insufficient performance level in term of clean power delivery, resulting in mediocre overall sound quality. The upgrade offered here brings the Ultra into audiophile territory, both in analog and digital outputs.
Inside the MiniTeddy Power Supply
The MiniTeddy Special Edition, scheduled to start shipping on 09/2024, is a complete redesign of the standard edition. It is based around our new Tedinator discrete voltage regulator.
The Tedinator is a fully discrete design, based entirely on ultra low noise JFET transistors with no IC chips. It is the result of countless hours of development, testing and listening. Its design is inspired by the writings of great minds like Walt Jung and Nelson Pass.
With the new Tedinator and the new circuit around it, we were able to achieve impressive new levels of low noise, low output impedance and fast response time, resulting in a highly involving sound, perfectly timed and with no apparent phasing errors, hence our new slogan : The Art of Silence.
The design features:
- Fully discrete design, based on JFET and Bipolar transistors;
- Multi-device output stage, for reduced output impedance and better load handling;
- Oversized transformer with 60VA capacity;
- Main capacitors from Kemet (Aerovox UK);
- Tantalum capacitors from Vishay (Israel);
- Electrolytic capacitors from Panasonic (Japan)
- Built-in ground-loop killer, to prevent ground-induced noise.

Klanglich eine andere Welt. Der Ultra ist nicht mehr wieder zu erkennen.
What I’ve learned about music servers available now in 2025 is that one should not spend much more than one or two thousand on one, if it’s configured as a server only. It has one simple job to do. Stream a song from the internet and send it to my DAC. Streamers set up this way simply do not have enough of an opportunity to make an impact on a system. Spending $20K or $50K on a music server is foolish and pointless.
