Teddy7/3 – 7V 3A Power Supply
$475
Teddy Pardo 7v Audiophile-Grade Linear Power Supply, perfect match for Sonore streaming products (OpticalRendu, MicroRendu, UltraRendo) and many others.
The design is based on the experience gained with the TeddyCap family of power supplies for Naim Audio equipment, and uses the same technology.
Details
The Teddy7/3 power supply can be used to replace the small AC plug-in power adaptor that comes with many audio equipment, and provides significant improvement in sound quality. Popular use cases are Sonore products, which run perfectly with the Teddy7V supply.
Note: For Uptone EtherRegen, we recommend on our 12V-2A power supply.
The design is based on the experience gained with the TeddyCap family of power supplies for Naim Audio equipment, and uses the same technology.
Update 09/24: We have released the new and improved MiniTeddy Special Edition: see hereÂ
Sound
In general, you’ll experience more clarity, tighter bass, more detail, better dynamics, natural voices, better soundstage etc.
Performance
The small power supply which is provided with most types of equipment is based on a technology called Switch Mode. Using this technology it is possible to create small, efficient, and low cost power supplies. Unfortunately due to their method of operation (high frequency capacitor charging), these power supplies are also very noisy, causing degradation in sound quality. As an alternative, several after market power supplies exist which are usually based on Linear Regulators. These regulators provides an improvement over the original power supply but as can be seen on the graph below are still limited in their performance. The Teddy7/3 power supply is based on a superior regulator called SuperTeddyReg and provides a significant improvement over linear regulators. The following graph shows the noise level measurements of the original wall wart power supply (red line), an alternative power supply based on a Liner Regulator (blue line), and the Teddy7/3 power supply (black line). The brown line is a zero Volt reference which is actually the measurement equipment internal noise. As can be seen the Teddy7/3 power supply noise level is very close to the zero Volt reference. Interconnects
The Teddy7/3 power supply is equipped with a high quality multistrand, twisted pair copper interconnect. It has a 2-pin female plug for the power supply end and a barrel plug on the other end.
A message from a happy customer:
I swapped out my previous LPS for the Sonore ultraRendu endpoint shortly after the Teddy Pardo units arrived. I realized one hour was too early to judge the Teddy7/2 (allowing this LPS to fill/stabilize capacitors). Still, I immediately noticed better layering and detail retrieval than the previous LPS powering my Sonore ultraRendu. The sonic effects improved noticeably every day after, but the significant improvement occurred after ~ 140 hours. It didn’t change the sonic signature of my system, but now the presentation “feels” more musical and involving. The most notable improvements are:
- Better separation of notes.
- Spatial cues in the recording venue.
- Focused vocals.
- Performer position.
- Layering within the soundstage is easier to hear.
Not so much in a way that calls attention to individual notes or sounds in the recording venue, but it makes the presentation much more enjoyable (i.e., it just sounds more like music.)Â
